** Helen Wilson and Luke Antysz (RISE Youth Dance directors) travelled to Hannover between April 12-15 to meet German partners at the Community Centre Linden, youth projects City of Hannover, and Twinning Cities/Hannover, after numerous online meetings initiated by Alix Hughes.
The purpose of this research trip was for the partners to meet and arrange another visit in August.
In August RISE Directors will take a group of young dancers to Hannover, to collaborate with young dancers there and create a performance as part of the 75th twinning anniversary celebrations.
A key component of the research trip involved Helen and Luke visiting the rehearsal venue and performance spaces for the August event. This was extremely helpful in the planning process, and allowed Helen and Luke to begin their creative process.
During the trip a timetable for the week’s visit in August was decided between the partners. The team in Hannover were very accommodating and helpful in arranging not only the dance content but social events and team building activities for the young people.
Helen and Luke met some young German dancers to talk about and promote the August project.
These dancers then took part in a short dance workshop led by a local choreographer. Following this, Helen and Luke took part in a short interview to promote the project. This online/tv interview was recently shared widely in Hannover to youth centre users, youth groups and young dancers.
The outcomes of the research trip have been a comprehensive plan for the August project agreed with partners from Bristol and Hannover, accommodation booked for RISE Youth Dancers in Hannover, the commencement of creative planning by RISE Directors and further development of the working relationship between the partners.
This research trip was invaluable in the planning of what looks to be a hugely successful project for young people of both cities, and the start of a promising working relationship between RISE Youth Dance and the Hannover partners.
