—- This is how our Hannover friends reflected on their latest visit to Bristol in their latest newsletter:
Our trip to Bristol with 13 people from August 6-11 was a complete success. Many thanks to our friends in Bristol for the fantastic preparation! Unfortunately, four other participants had to cancel at short notice due to illness; otherwise, we would have been 17.
On Thursday, August 7, we were welcomed by the Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant, and the members of Bristol Hannover Council at Council House. After the welcome at the town hall, the Joint Board Meeting took place, where, in addition to a review of the current year, we discussed the visit of the Bristolians from May 13 (over Ascension Day) to May 18, 2026. We have already submitted a funding application to the City of Hannover for the visit.
Afterwards, we went on a very special behind-the-scenes tour of the M Shed Museum, with a fascinating insight into the history of technology in Bristol. We were also able to visit the Matthew in which Bristolians sailed to Newfoundland on the original ship in 1497. Royston Griffey, former Lord Mayor, guided us.
On Friday, August 8, we travelled by bus to Wells and visited the Bishop’s Palace and its gardens, as well as Wells Cathedral. There, we listened to a Canadian choir with a diverse repertoire.
