** After a stunning performance in the Rathaus in Hannover last summer with their Hannover partners, RISE Youth Dance welcomed their friends to Bristol this summer for another week of workshops, culminating in a series of dances on College Green as part of the Harbour Festival.
Bristol-Hannover Council again funded an exploratory visit to Hannover in April by lead choreographers Helen Wilson and Luke Antysz, and RISE were subsequently successful in applications to both the UK-German Connection and this time also the Arts Council, in order to enable the visiting group to join them this year in Bristol.
They managed to dance on College Green in a dry period on Saturday, July 15 (picture here).
The Hannover troupe, which was a loose grouping last year, has now taken the name ‘Under Construction’ and presumably looks forward to more cooperation.
After the performance, as BHC Chair Ann Kennard walked away, first she met the dancers coming in groups in the other direction, so she said ‘Well done!’ to them in English and German, telling them she was part of the Bristol-Hannover link and they seemed pleased.
Then she was stopped by a Radio Bristol reporter who wanted to find people enjoying the Harbour Festival. Ann said she was only there for the dance, explaining about Bristol and Hannover and the relationship and how great the dance relationship had become etc. – hopefully providing a little extra publicity!
