Professor Rolf Nobel of the Technical University in Hannover brought a team of 15 photographers to Bristol in July 2013, to photograph ‘Life in Bristol’ as part of their ongoing LANDMARKER project. The group have put on several exhibitions of their pictures around the world, the last city to be photographed in this way being Bangkok. BHC Chair Ann Kennard went to Hannover in January to attend the official opening by the new Oberbürgermeister of Hannover, Stefan Schostok, of an exhibition of around 100 of the best photographs of Bristol. In his opening address, Herr Schostok paid tribute to the longevity of the city partnership, and looked forward to getting to know Hannover’s partner city better. Prof. Nobel introduced the photographs by saying that initially his team were somewhat underwhelmed by the idea of photographing Bristol, after exotic Bangkok! But in the event, they quite fell in love with city and its friendly citizens, beautiful architecture and exuberant city life. They were so impressed that two of their number returned in November 2013 to take part in the ’24 Hours in Bristol’ event, and five of their photographs were included in the final exhibition here in Bristol.
