** Our first visible twinning activity for the 75th Anniversary year was to welcome two graffiti artists from Hannover to Bristol for Upfest, Europe’s largest graffiti festival.
Dast (Instagram das.t.ea) has, since the 1990s, enjoyed the old-school style of the interaction of letters and characters, using colours and joining others to create.
Madina Saifallah (Instagram: madinasaif) usually works as a lone wolf, watching how lines slowly, slowly form a shape. As she is originally from Afghanistan her picture shows the plight of the country under the watchful eyes of the Taliban. As they were only able to stay for the one day, they shared a board for their two paintings.
After a free day on Friday where they took an exhausting 16,000 steps to see as much of Bristol as possible, stating that they particularly enjoyed the architecture, before participating in a live recorded interview for Visit Bristol at The Tobacco Factory.
Saturday was the big day, so after registering, the artists took their cans to the field where they agreed to share a large board. The weather was good and enabled a good day’s painting. More than 30,000 people visited the festival over the weekend.
