Socialist Realist art talk
January 28 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Please join us for a talk on Socialist Realism in art, given by Bristol-Hannover Council member Colin Evans. Colin has spoken to Bristol-Hannover Council on various subjects before and those of you who have attended his talks will know how entertaining and informative they were. Colin says about this subject:
“Socialist Realism is an art form that served as political propaganda mostly, but not only, in Communist countries during the post WW2 era. It did not follow trends in art towards expression but adhered to the objective of conveying straightforward motivational messages that everybody could understand. It was initially idealistic but later morphed into a cover up for the many failings of authoritarian government. We will look at several examples but of particular interest will be those from the GDR. These show characteristics suggesting that the creativity that has put Germany at the forefront of contemporary art was evident on both sides of the border.”
Owing to Covid-19 restrictions, this talk will be held online. If you would like to attend PLEASE LET ANN KENNARD (BRISTOL-HANNOVER COUNCIL CHAIR) KNOW ASAP at firstname.lastname@example.org
